A TRADITIONAL TRANSPORT IN KOLKATA : HAND PULLED RICKSHAW

Hand pulled rickshaw is a traditional mode of transportation in Kolkata. It's actually a two wheelers cart for seating two people. Basically we see that type of transport in a few places in North Kolkata : Shyambazar, Sovabazar, Bagbazar, Manicktala etc.

Socio economic condition of rickshawala :

• Mainly the migrated people from Bihar, Jharkhand choose this profession in Kolkata for better income. In Kolkata they live in some particular area where their community lives in rent. Otherwise they live in any slum area.
• They work very hard for carrying passengers or luggages but their income is very low.

Advantage :

• Rickshaw is an important transport for moving nearby places.
• Something we don't get other transport for some route that time rickshaw is a helpful transport.

Disadvantage :

• Hand pulled rickshaws are not more comfortable transport than others.
• Cost depends on distance but it varies. Cost is a little bit more than others.

Present day context :

• Auto : Auto is a small but very essential form of transport for traveling nearest places. This is actual for 4 passengers. Cost of this transport is reasonable.
• Rickshaw : Rickshaw is a traditional transport in Kolkata. It's a 2 wheelers transport for 2 people. We move to the nearest places with the help of this transport. Cost of this transport varies by distance.
• Toto : Toto is a new transport in Kolkata. It's a profitable transport so it's helpful for jobless youth. It is for 5 people. The cost is reasonable.

WATER TRANSPORT :

• Launch : Launch is a quicker and comfortable transport for passengers. The way of this is water. This is also helpful for creating happiness or some change. It has a proper timetable. The cost of this transport is reasonable.
• Boat : Boat is a traditional transport. In Kolkata it's a way of adventure. But it is also helpful for moving. But this transportation depends on the weather. Cost of this transport is a little more.
